RENAISSANCE STONEWARE |
||||
|
In his pottery of the Miroir aux Prêles (Horsetail Mirror), Franz Fenris G. invents both common wares and pomp vessels by re-interpreting the shapes and the decorative ornaments of the Renaissance. These original pieces are made of wheel-thrown, hand modelled or moulded, glazed or unglazed stoneware. The decoration is either painted with coloured slip or oxides applied with the help of a thin brush (in the 2005 collection), or inlaid by filling in depressed motifs made by carving or stamping the soft clay with a darker slip (from 2006 onward). The motifs show arabesques, Moresque, basket-weave knotwork and grotesques which are inspired from the Italian Quattrocento and the French and German sixteenth century decorative arts. Unless specified otherwise (earthenware), all the following pieces were fired at 1260°C in a reducing atmosphere. Please click on the icon to get to the details.
